Melaka is rich with history and was founded by the Prince Parameswara from Sumatra in 15th Century. It was also once of the major port or a must stop for merchants from China, India, Arab and many more for trading purposes. The one of the critical success factor was the the Melaka river or known as 'Venice Of The East" by the European seafarers, signifies the emergence of Malay Sultanate of Melaka; which marked the beginning and ending of each war. The Melaka river was once of the main factors attracted foreign colonization, and it was the place where Melaka began until the modern city of Melaka today.

The Melaka river plays an important role in the development of Melaka due to its strategic river mouth that prince Parameswara of Sumatra settled and established his sultanate. His place was built on the east bank of the river (at the foot of St Paul's Hill)

Melaka river became an important conduit for trade and business center, in addition to the source of fresh water for Melaka city. The Melaka river enabled access to the interior and provided path for the forest produce to be brought down to the Market for trading.
The Melaka River CruiseIf you planning to visit Melaka river in the near future, visitors can also take the river cruise to ‘self experience’ the Melaka river. Basically there any types of cruises available, such as with the onboard recorded commentaries or with tour guide onboard.
